The preceeding video is of the Republic being towed down to the Edison dock. This was before the tire incident.

Republic was disabled, and being towed in for repairs. Specifically to have a fender tire extracted from the prop.

She had a tire wedged in one of her props. That most likely restricted their maneuverability going backwards up the Trenton Channel, hence the tugs. Plus with the number of pleasure boaters out, its always better to play it safe.

The Trenton channel is a nasty little ditch with two narrow bridges, rock piles lining both sides, and it dead ends into rock piles about 6 feet below LWD less than 1500 feet below the lower bridge. From McClouth to the lower end the project depth is 21 feet. I have surveyed it numerous times with the COE and actually located 4 tires on the bottom along the Edison dock.

As maneuverable as the Republic is, why is she using two tugs? Required?

I see she is at the old McClouth Steel dock in the Trenton. Is she unloading coal there or maybe a problem with the County bridge?
