That's a fresh hole. Most likely an overboard for either the OWS or Ballast Water Treatment System. I do not know how the Great Lakes are impacted by the BWTS legislation underway globally, but over the next few years, most ocean trading ships will need an IMO-approved BWTS in place.

Look like scuppers to me.

When I saw the Salarium downbound at the Soo last month I noticed 4 big "holes" on the side of the hull. Never seen any other vessel with these outlets. What are they for? Any info would help. Thanks Herm Phillips
