The crib range was located near where bouys 33 and 34 are now. From my 1901 Scotts Pilot the Manhattan ranges were only 6th order lights, so they may not have been visable for the entire channel length. The rear light was also the front light for the old channel which headed northerly towards Turtle Island from that point.

I’m looking for any information about the demolished Toledo Harbor Crib Lights. This crib had a long life. The pictures are from 1912 to the 1950’s. I never understood the need for this huge range light crib. Toledo has the Manhattan Range Lights located next to the Coast Guard Toledo Station since 1898. Two sets of range lights for an absolutely straight channel seems like a nightmare, instead of an aid, to marine traffic. Every ship arriving/leaving to the Toledo port had to pass this range light structure. Is there a mariner out there who can tell me where the crib was located? I am guessing this crib was somewhere in the 10 miles of shipping channel between the Toledo lighthouse and harbor entrance. TIA
