Just for the sake of resting arguments, what I meant when I said, "she might be ready by the grain rush," is that when other vessels are committed to hauling grain, dormant vessels can come in handy. I don't ever recall St. Clair hauling grain. You've all provided a spectrum of information regarding her capabilities and limitations. Ultimately, I was only using the grain rush as a time reference.

The St. Clair does not have the paper work to haul grain.

The American Mariner one other is for grain to Buffalo..

As far as grain to a Canadian port I don't know

There is a process that a vessel go through to become a grain hauler, the inspection at the loading terminal is:

1. check the paper work and certificates

2. inspect the cargo hole [ this is the terminal, USDA, and Insurer of cargo

3. Inspection on completion of load and all paper work.

4. inspection and sampling at unloading port

That was the process when i worked the lake front, not sure today.
I will say that I see people come on board the mariner an arrival and a box going overboard to the dock this could be the samples from the loading elevator.

She’s not too big to carry grain. ASC has shipped grain in a thousand footer before. Not all the grain on the lakes goes down the Seaway. The Mariner brings it to Buffalo a lot goes to Toledo too.

Well aware of all those facts. But I doubt if she'll carry grain.

Denny, all I can tell you, from what I've heard around the Erie bayfront, St. Clair isn't due to be blocked and docked until July. With Don Jon's ever changing schedule, I'm sure that's not completely accurate, but it doesn't seem like ASC is too eager to have her trading extensively this season. Maybe she'll be ready to sail by the grain rush?

That makes some sense. I believe she sailed around the same time last season. ASC seemed to use her to replaced the H. Lee White, American Mariner, and John J. Boland on their limestone routes while those boats made quite a few taconite deliveries down the seaway to Quebec.

She's too big to haul grain. Won't fit down the Welland or St. Lawrence Seaway.

Will she be fitting out and sailing this season? I haven't seen any new information or updates on her in quite a while. Thought once though I read that she was at some point to be drydocked in Erie this year before she does sail this season. I know she is still there in Erie and has yet to enter any drydocks. Just curious is all if there is any new updates or information on her? Thanks.
