The Marine Traffic App is also great to track ships' passage and also uses AIS.

While on the topic of apps. I have always thought that Boatnerd.com should have an app. Like many other apps that people pay to download, this wonderful website and community could raise funds by having one. Users could give heads-up on passages, incidents etc from the discussion boards etc.

Setting one's push notifications settings would be useful.

The community on this site has some of the most knowledgeable, courteous, respectful and kind people on it.

I, for one, would be more than willing to pay for it.

Lets keep boatnerd.com going and alive for the future!

M.

Best way to figure out what ships are going to be around is to download an app like Findship LTE for your cell phone, it's a free app that shows ship location any where in the world. You can than see what is going to be around and estimate where they are going to be. It's an app that uses the AIS system like the one found on this site.

Hello all. Is there a way to know vessel passages a day or two in advance? I`d love to plan a few boating trips to the center of Lake Saint Clair to catch a glimpse and photos of some `Footers`. Thank you, Bill in Harrison TWP.
