Coal to Courtright, Ont.

Just wanted to comment on today's news page story discussing the very minimal number of vessels which have delivered to the Lambton Generating Station at Courtright,ON. this season. Mention is made that the Canadian Government wants to see a reduction in coal fired power facilities in the coming years with a move to natural gas or other ' greener' technologies. While it's true that the Canadian Federal Government is encouraging other forms of power generation, coal fired plants will still be built and allowed to operate provided that they can decrease emissions. New builds will have to be in compliance beginning in 2015.
As for the Province of Ontario, all coal fired plants are due to be totally converted and off coal by 2014. The Canadian Federal Goverment and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario ( read Ontario Provincial Gov't.) are completely separate entities.
In years gone by, LLT also delivered to Courtright and Interlake was a prime carrier in the early 2000's.
Hundreds of jobs in this area depend on the Lambton facility both land based and in water born transport as well as rail and road transport. We see thousands of acres of prime agricultural land now taken up with windmills and solar farms. The technology exisits for clean coal power! Not to mention the greater cost and lesser return of alternative power sources.
