I would have to say the engines burn a good amount and also not many places you can get lube oil on the Atlantic better to have more than not enough, I know 39 tons seems alot of oil, I will check and let you know the real story.[/quote]
Thanks I'll look forward to more info. As you said 30 tons seems like way more than they would need for make up lube oil.

The tug that left with the Agawa Canyon carries 721 tons of fuel 75 tons of water and 30 tons of lube oil, this tug has two engines 4220 bhp ea. when Sirocco left she was just using one engine which was enough to pull the Agawa Canyon, Sirocco should have enough fuel to cross the Atlantic as far as Gibralter where if needed will reful there as most ships do.
Why so much lube oil?

These are ocean going tugs built with very long range capability. Sirocco, the one towing Agawa Canyon, can make the round trip across the ocean witout refueling, it carries 721 tons of fuel.

When tugs take a tow to Turkey from the Great Lakes, do they have to install extra fuel tanks to make the crossing? How much fuel would they use crossing the Atlantic?
