Algoma Equinox Ships

Watching that video and seeing all the shots of the Algoma Mariner reminded me of something I've meant to ask about since I first saw her.

Why are there markings on the hull that (I presume) indicate where one cargo hold ends and the next begins? What purpose does that serve?

I don't think the Nanticoke renaming was CSL's doing. I believe whoever is chartering it named it that. Salarium means salt, as does Sauniere, the boat that Salarium replaced.

CSL's recent bulker names such as Saguenay and Richelieu don't use CSL. It's very possible if they reuse old names, there won't be a CSL prefix.

That would be fantastic. I understand the desire to put the company name/initials out there as much as possible, but I'd posit that the naming tradition in the Canada Steamship Lines fleet is so distinct and classy that the names themselves already serve as their own brand and don't need "CSL" stamped in front.

I think it's safe to assume that unless they name them after a person, they will have CSL stamped before the name. I'm on the same boat (pardon the pun) as you though, if they have "Canada Steamship Lines" painted along the side (which the Trillium laker class will), I also see no need for the CSL on the name. But you never know really, recent rebuilds for their Australian fleet have CSL stamped before it (Brisbane, Atlantic, Thevenard). However, as was pointed out... none of the bulkers do (which don't have the Canada steamship lines painted down the sides). Another thought, when they renamed the Nanticoke, they didn't put a CSL before Salarium.

I can't tell you what the names might be, but I hope they use old ones like Algosound, Algocen (Algoma) or Simcoe, Rimouski (CSL). That doesn't seem likely, however.

Certainly possible to see CSL choose names like Simcoe and Rimouski (likely with the CSL prefix added on); they have a history of reusing several classic fleet names. Richelieu, Saguenay, and the seagoing Stadacona are just a few recent examples. Would love to see a CSL Lemoyne or CSL Manitoulin sailing.

On the Algoma side the rules of the employee naming contest make it clear that they're moving away from "Algo___" names and toward "Algoma _____". Of the shortlisted names, Algoma Conveyor, Algoma Innovator, Algoma Pioneer, and Algoma Vision seem likely to make their way onto a ship. Would love to see more old ULS suffixes used; Algoma Harvest (not Harvester) has a nice ring to it, same with Algoma Explorer, Algoma Hunter, Algoma Leader, Algoma Ranger, Algoma Trader, and Algoma Voyager.

Any idea on the names of the new Equinox and Trillium vessels coming out soon? I would obviously assume there will be Algoma Equinox and CSL Trillium. Also, are there any drawings or renderings of how the vessels will look? I was hoping to make models of the two classes. Any info much appreciated!
