Hi there,
Not sure if anyone can offer any suggestions on anywhere I might be able to find any information?
I'm looking into what may have happened to an ancestor who was an engineer in the merchant navy who drowned in one of the lakes in 1908.
I have his logbook which records his last voyage ending in London in 1906. I also have what appears to be the text of a newspaper article reporting on his funeral after he drowned at Port Stanley in September 1908 and buried at Union Cemetery. (Which presumably puts him in Lake Erie, although family legend says he drowned in Lake Huron) He was apparently working for 'Haney and Miller' at the time, but don't know in what capacity.
I can't find any record of any vessels sinking in that area at that time so assume he may have fallen overboard or something else. Does anyone know whether there are any archives or resources that might hold any more details on such an incident? (Ideally an online resource, as I'm in the UK!)
Not holding out a lot of hope but thanks in advance!
Steve.
