Yes. Trials on 26 August 1943 and it left River Rouge on 28 August 1943.

To add to what is already posted, a newspaper article about her being grounded in the St Clair River September 29th, stated that it "made its first trip up the lakes Aug 28..."

My research and records say that it was August 28, 1943.

I'm trying to determine the date on which the Frank Purnell sailed on its maiden voyage in 1943. This ship later became the Steelton (3) and CTC #1.
