Re: key harbour, ontario
The CNR coal dock had three Brown Hoist locomotive cranes with one ton clamshells that could unload 1500 tons in ten hours. It also accommodated smaller self-unloaders. The dock was restricted to vessels 450 feet in length or shorter. The CPR dock at Britt originally had two Mead-Morrison towers using 2 ton clamshells capable of unloading 4000 tons in ten hours.

what type of unloader was used at key harbour for unloading coal for the c.n.r.? or did it all come by selfunloaders? i know it no longer exists but its an interesting subject. the c.p,r. had a similiar dock in britt, ontario for coal for their stram locomotives. was it similar to the key harbour operation? in recent years {1980s} the c.p.r. brought in diesel fuel by lake tanker, usually cleveland tankers, but that too is a thing of the past. just goes to prove even a railway knows water transportation was {is} more econimical than raiilroad!
