The Ahnapee and Western Railway, which connected Sturgeon Bay to the national rail network stopped serving Sturgeon Bay in 1968. So if any steel does come by rail, it would have to use another mode from Green Bay or vicinity to the shipyard.

Ship Steel Deliveries to Bay Shipbuilding

How does Bay Shipbuilding get its steel delivered for new ships and repair work? Is it by barge, rail, or truck? It seems that by barge would be the most efficient method but the mode of transportation would also depend on where the source of the steel is located. I have just never seen any information on how the steel is delivered to any of the various shipyards on the lakes.
