Incan Superior/Princess Superior

Thank you for the detailed information about her location. WIth a fairly last minute change of plans we sailed to Nanaimo/Duke Point instead of Schwartz Bay on Saturday. It takes some doing on unmarked roads to get to where the SeaSpan facility is located, but I can confirm that as of 6/30 the former Incan Superior is still there. I will post a picture when I have a chance to get them downloaded.

Its AIS transmitter is still active, but I believe the Princess Superior is in layup status since mid year 2022. It is in Nanaimo, but at the Duke Point terminal and not at the downtown dock. Fleetmate Carrier Princess (probably sold) has been cut down to a barge, while the Seaspan Greg appears to also be laid up, in Tilbury.

Seaspan did a fleet renewal and now have four new ferries in service. (Seaspan Swift, Seaspan Reliant, Seaspan Trader and Seaspan Transporter) They are similar in appearance to the Princess Superior but much larger. And of course carry trucks only. They still have a couple of tug/barge combos in service also (Seaspan Challenger/Coastal Spirit and Seaspan Pusher/Fraser Link).

If any rail traffic is still being taken to Vancouver Island (last I knew a few miles of track were still in service basically in Nanaimo) it would be on one of Seaspan's several rail barges, which also still serve a few isolated pulp/paper mills both on the island and on the mainland.

In the 70s and 80s the CPR had 3 round trips per day from downtown Vancouver to namniamo carrying passengers, truck tailers and rail cars. The carrier princess ran from swartz bay to Vancouver with cars, passengers and drop trailers. But that was 30 years or more ago. I'm sure bc ferries must still transport trucks. Don't forget the mv coho between port Angeles,wa and Victoria,bc in PA she loads in the stern, in Victoria she unloads and loads thru side doors. She also carrys large trucks but no drop trailers.

Does anyone know if the former Incan Superior is still operating out around Vancouver Island. I will be out that way later this summer, am just curious. Thanks.
