Huron Lightship in Port Huron

Denny, just my personal opinion, I love the salutes be they between ships or to please people watching. I even enjoy hearing fog horns. However, I don't like it when three different individuals on my street honk their horns every time they leave their drive! I'd love to complain but that won't change anything.

Slightly off topic however, I too have noticed the lack of ship salutes when going by the Huron Lightship Museum in Port Huron. They don’t seem to blow salutes as often as they used to that’s for certain. I can tell you one area for sure that they don’t give out salutes much anymore like they used to do and that is in St. Clair, Michigan itself on the St. Clair River. I don’t know if this is true and has any bearing but, I’ve heard many stories about someone once made a complaint about them blowing the salutes as to the reasons now you don’t hear too many horn salutes like you used to do. What A Shame! Give me a break already as they blow it all the time at the Soo especially when they pass by Mission Point sometimes and they always blow it to the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge and the Bridge also responds back. My point is, never once have I ever seen or heard of anyone complain about them saluting at the Soo or Duluth so why then do they complain about it IF they do that is on the St. Clair River? Again I say, give me a break as ships have been blowing horn sounds and also salutes for longer than we’ve been watching along with following them and probably will continue doing so long after were gone someday. The ‘ole saying if you will here folks, it only takes a few rotten apples to ruin and spoil it for everyone else. Where I really feel bad about the ships not blowing salutes is for the young kids as they get a kick out of it and think it’s really neat, cool and thrilling!

Usually the lightship salutes first and the freighters answer in reply. Was the lightship saluting during your visit?

They use to salute. Maybe residents complained?

Was in Port Huron for 3 days and out of approximately 15 boats only 1 blew a salute to the lightship.
Is this no longer a custom?
