Denny - thanks for posting an update on Sturgeon Bay. Looks like a good summary of the fleet arriving.
I'm not in Sturgeon Bay at the moment, so can't give a lot of great information, but I do have friends that keep me posted on what's happening.
From afar, it looks like a quiet Winter Fleet at Bay Ship. Maybe 3-4 boats from being full. I believe the full run down looks like this, north to south:
- Paul R. Tregurtha (in the large graving dock)
- Mesabi Miner (berth 15)
- Stewart J. Cort (berth 15)
- Wilfred Sykes (Berth 11)
- Joseph L. Block (Berth 10)
- New build SOV (Berth 9)
- Frontenac (Berth 8)
- Burns Harbor (inside on face)
- James R. Barker (outside on face)
- Tug Albert/Barge Margaret (berth 2)
Looks like gaps at Berth 3, 8.5, 9 and an extra on Berth 15
Sturgeon Bay Reports and Updates
Re: Sturgeon Bay Reports and Updates
In watching the AIS maps all day today on January 21st then, I will try and help contribute as much as I can any type of information on Sturgeon Bay layups and reports. The Paul R. Tregurtha finally arrived at BayShip then on January 21 and was placed in the Large Graving Dock by the late evening then on the 21st. Several moves along with shiftings in layups took place as well. Burns Harbor was removed from the Large Graving Dock on the 21st to make way and room for the Paul R. Tregurtha’s arrival. The Burns Harbor then it would appear I think anyway was then moved to the Face Dock while the James R. Barker later also arrived on the 21st and it appears on the AIS maps that they may be moored alongside of the Burns Harbor then at the Face Dock? The Stewart J. Cort who was moored at Berth 15 next to the Large Graving Dock looks like may have moved just a bit from their location but is still near the Graving Dock for now. I hope that this information has helped anyone that follows or tracks the arrivals at Sturgeon Bay and BayShip. If anyone from the area would like to add more details to the ship arrivals and their movements, please feel free to do so and Thank You as well for the information also. Stay Safe & Warm!
Re: Sturgeon Bay Reports and Updates
Very small fleet again this year.., only 8 vessels plus the new build of the supply vessel for east coast use on the offshore wind farms. P.R.T. And James barker are driving into bay ship as I type this. Other vessels are:
Burns harbor , mesabi miner , Stewart cort, joe block, Wilfred Sykes , Frontenac and the Albert with her barge . Miss the days where we had 16 vessels here. Don’t know what’s going on . Also just about everyone of the lay up boats this year came down the bay and not through the channel. Stinks for photo ops.

Sturgeon Bay Reports and Updates
Noticed unlike with previous Winters and Lay Up seasons I haven’t seen too many reports so far from Sturgeon Bay as far as ships arriving for lay up there. Usually one of our main posters is Guest from Sturgeon Bay and Bob+ but again I’ve yet to see very many posts this winter from each of these two great contributors! Hope this finds both of you and others from Sturgeon Bay to be well so far this Winter then. Thanks all you and Be & Stay Safe and Warm.
