Yes, the tug - barge New York, US flagged and manned and operating on the Great Lakes. Its in Tonawanda, NY right now unloading petroleum products.
And yes there have been Canadian tankers bringing oil between US ports in NE, and I believe a shipment between Cleveland and Green Bay.
Only US bottoms should be allowed to trade between US ports - no exceptions. We need to protect American jobs! American First !
Sad to report that most of the new Canadian lakers were built not in Canadian yards, but in Red China. The Canadians need to get their act together too, their ship yards need the work, and so do their workers.
I wasn't going tocdo this before but I will now. Tobias, your anti-Canadian nonsense is unacceptable. You and others using terms such as Red China and socialist is inflammatory.
Your MAGA rhetoric is not acceptable and if you keep this nonsense up, I will stop coming to Boatnerd.
Stop blaming Canadians for issues the US has in being competitive with Canada and other countries.
Canada does not need to get its act together, the US does.

Your Canadian ship yards can’t compete with lower cost builders around the world due to excessive labor costs, environmental laws and high tax rates to support your socialist style govt and culture.you want to build new ships? Get competitive! As far as the jones act,it has negligible effect on us merchant seaman. There are lots of unfilled job’s available on USA owned and operated ships right now. The industry has trouble attracting and retaining crew as young people try it but few stay in it.best you stop making it an emotional issue and take a hard realistic view of the whole situation.my opinion as a retired Great Lakes sailor,38 yrs experience.

Now that fuel supplies are stabilizing........the need for waivers from Jones Act requirements is over.
Time to restore the requirements that cargo and fuel moved between US ports, be transported on US flagged ships with US crews.
We need to support the US Maritime industry, not foreign bottoms and foreign crews.
Preserve US jobs on the Great Lakes and in Atlantic and Pacific ports too.
The last thing I want is for Canadian ships, built in Red China, with non US crews to be transporting fuel and cargo between US Great Lakes ports.
Sorry, American First, not Last.
I agree 100%

Does the US have tankers that can carry fuel between US Great Lakes ports? With the sale of Cleveland Tankers to Algoma over ten years ago, there are no US Great Lakes-based tanker operators. Maybe a such a company should be formed.

I note that a shipment of 28K tons of rice and wheat is on the way to Kenya from the Port of New Orleans, as part of a relief effort.
This shipment is being made on an American flagged ship, with an all American crew too.
This shipment will aid millions of starving Africans in Kenya and other countries.
