When leaving Alpena the ships back out of the loading slip and then wind (turn around) by putting the bow againsth the dock and slowely turn with the bow pressed up against the dock. The recessed anchor is better at not tangling the forward wires as the ship turns.

Wasn't there an issue regarding a certain dock and the associated pilings for both the J.B Ford and the E.M. Ford? I had heard that it was due to the anchors soming in contact with the piliing.

J.B. Ford mismatched anchors

I was scanning some old negatives and noticed how the J. B. Ford's anchors (and pockets) are mismatched. Anyone know if there's a reason for this?
