Re: Ashland Ore Docks
Photo & caption from Ashland Historical Society website
"What a lonely monument to the boats that loaded there and to their crews. It is a striking picture of something that has outlived it's usefulness. One can almost visualize the now non-existent ore boats and their rainbow of colors as they were loading there. Do you hear the chutes being raised and lowered? Do you hear the trains bumping and dumping? Why is that boat blowing such a long blast? Oh. she's loaded and leaving the dock. Will she ever return? Never." Verse written by John S. Scott

Chris,
Have you tried the railroad historical societies?
Chicago & North Western Historical Society
http://www.cnwhs.org/index.htm
Soo Line Historical and Technical Society
http://www.sooline.org/home.html
Both maintain archives and publish fantastic magazines. And both magazines have had articles on their respective ore operations in Ashland.
Northern Pacific also served Ashland, but I don't think they loaded ore there.

Ashland Ore Docks
I'm looking for information and photos of the docks (preferably in use) in Ashland, Wisconsin. I'm currently working on a coffee table book, I've even gone to our local museum and there's not alot of photos or detailed information. I'm also looking for any personal stories of any who has worked on the docks there. If you or someone you know who might be able to help me please email me at mazzella_creations@hotmail.com
