The George Hindman is a gift shop just inside the piers at Duluth on your starboard side coming from the lake. And yes there is one just inside of Detour, been there only a few years, looks like owner is upgrading it for a cottage? maybe? It was flying a ULS flag one day, anyone know of the owner?

It was the Benson Ford I saw before - thank you all so very much. Thanks for the other leads and that amazing picture of the Altadoc. I wonder just how much money it takes to even get something like that delivered?

Also, you can view the pilothouse of the steamer Tioga that ran aground on Sawtooth Reef around thanksgiving 1919 off Eagle River, MI on the Keeweenaw Peninsula. It is used as some kind of artist's studio(I believe) and is right next to the road in Eagle River. No missing it if you go there. And it's such a beautiful part of the world that the trip is well worth it.

The pilot house of the Altadoc was a 2-room motel & gift shop until it burned. For a photo and more info, see http://www.pasty.com/discuss/messages/313/891.html

Somewhere I have a photo and some information but I can't find the details tonight. However, someone had a "small" motel in the vicinity of Copper Harbor, MI. They used the foreward cabins of a wrecked freighter. The pilot house was a lounge, the texas deck was a two room motel, and the lower level was an office.

I remember hearing about a pilot house that was converted into a restaurant or something like that. Somewhere in or near Copper Harbor if I recall correctly. Not sure if it's still there.

Besides the Lewis G. Harriman, a portion of the forward section (not front half) and pilothouse of the Benson Ford is on Lake Erie at Put-In Bay. Just google either name and it will take you to links with photos of them. I'm not aware of anything on Lake Superior.

The one that comes to mind is the forward end of the Lewis G. Harriman in Detour, Mich., at the south end of the St. Mary's River where it flows into Lake Huron.

Cabin on Lk Superior made of old steamer pilothouse?

I thought I came across a picture somewhere of a place on Lake Superior that was made out of the front half of an old steamer. I also heard another one was in the works. Does anyone know what vessel that was (or what the other one might be) and where it is? Or where I could find a picture of it? Thanks!
