Is Waukegan still open

Wasn't there talk in Waukegan a few years back about the city wanting to get rid of some of the harbor industries and redevelop the area?

Forgive me, but I've been away from the Waukegan area for some time now, but back in the 1970's the power plant there used to receive coal by boat. Guess it must come by rail now

the Prentiss brown/St Marys Conquest and Samuel D Champlain/Innovation have both been in Waukegan this year The Conquest will be in this afternoon

In April 2010 I caught the Alpena unloading and leaving Waukegan. I think at least one of the Lafarge tug/barges was in there at least once last season too.

In 2006 I photographed M/V Buffalo leaving. I guess those days are gone.

The harbor is dredged to only 16 feet, so it would be hard to get a fairly large ship in here. I will be talking to Waukegan about maybe porting the Bramble, and also Kenosha. That has a draft of only 12 feet.

Is Waukegan Harbor still open for big ships? Haven't seen anything this year headed there.
