She's getting her 5-year at Port Weller this winter.

Is she then in there having a five year inspection done on her and if not, will she be getting one at Port Weller or someplace else? Thanks for any information.

This was a genuinely welcome sight today as the Algoma Enterprise was maneuvered into the dry dock at Port Weller. She was assisted by the tugs, Lac Manitoba
and Vigilant I.

Algoma Enterprise was placed in p.w.d.d. at noon today with assistance from Vigilant 1.

algoma enterprise is suppose to go into pwdd between the 28-31 of this month.

Hamilton has her listed as going there for layup/repairs.

The rumor is stronger..it maybe the transport goin into pwdd for winter

Just a small correction to what NiagaraMike has said ...There were winters when the PWDD facility had more vessels than dock space. As drydocking in most cases only required a month or so, but varied; the tug James E.McGrath and another tug(s) would be tiedup at DD and used to shuttle vessels from dock to either the tieup wall or fitout berth or vice versa as required by DD. If the reach was scheduled to be emptied, drydockings had to coincide; in before draining out after flooding. This winter the upper tieup wall at lock 1 is scheduled for major work and lengthening back to its former length, so this reach will be empty. Also scheduled new tieup walls above and below lock 3 will mean that Canal reaches will be drained from lock 7 north to lock 1 during the Canal shutdown. Barry

The Seaway owns PWDD.
It would not be that tough for Algoma Ship Repair( Fraser Marine)
from Pt Colbourne to use the drydocks. Like Leasing a bay at Canadian Tire to fix your car!

I would assume that a ship could be put into one of the dry docks for the winter, rather than just up against the fit-out wall. However, I have to wonder out ownership and insurance issues.

Is the stretch between Lock 1 and Lock 2 drained Every winter?

Take note that PWDD is above lock 1. this area of the canal is drained in the winter, so they would have to put it in the dry-dock. I know when CSL had the fore-bodies replaced, one of the old fore-bodies spent the winter on the dirt, but this is a different instance.

That's certainly plausible. It's dock space and if dry docking isn't required contractors will drive to the boat to do the work. It happens all over Duluth/Superior every year.

Who would do the work? wasn't most of the equipment there sold off?

There are rumors goin around that Algoma will put a ship in the old pwdd shipyard this winter,for winter repairs..anyone hear of this?
