The Keewatin departed Greenock on 14 September 1907 and arrived at Montreal on 23 September 1907. She was cut into two sections for passage through the Welland Canal and recombined at Buffalo. The keewatin entered regular service on 7 October 1908.

SS Keewatin

Noticed pic of Keewatin last week. Just wondering how that Canadian Pacific steamship got on the Great Lakes. Keewatin was built in the uK in 1907. Stats show it,s lenght to be 336 feet . Prior to St-Lawrence Seaway, ships transiting to old canals system were limited to app 259-260 feet. I suspect the ship was either split in half and reunited in a Great lakes shipyard or came-up via the Mississipi ect as many former WW2 ships did to be later converted to lakers . Any info wold be appreciated. Thanks
