Yeah having it aft makes it barely noticeable when you're in your room. I can only remember one time when it actually woke me up and that's only because the A/C fan was off.

Ships are required to have two horns. Many of the modern ships have forward and after horns. I don't know why the Cort has them fore and aft but when sounding them in the fog it is nice because everyone lives forward. Putting the horn on 1000 feet away makes it easier to sleep when the thing goes off every 2 minutes.

Why would she have two different horns, and what would the reasons for using one or the other be?

I took that video. The weak horn is the forward horn on top of the pilothouse. The deeper, more rich horn is on the aft mast. In the video, the Cort was using the aft horn. (The Lee saluted first)

I think that is the Cort's aft horn. It has a bit of a different sound. We were at Rock Cut one day a couple years back and saw the Cort. She tried blowing a salute on the forward horn and it squeaked something awful. The captain came out and laughed saying the horn was sick. He then blew a wonderful salute on the aft horn which sounded just like the one in the posted video. I have it recorded on VHS. There is a good chance the forward horn was at least fixed if not replaced, but to me it sounds like the aft horn. Nice to see boats saluting eachother. I have seen the Lee A. and the Kaye salute off Marquette a couple times as they passed one another.

Interesting you should pose that question. This Youtube video had me wondering the same thing.

Did the original horn get replaced? The horn sounded weak this weekend.
