Re: 2016 cleveland activity
It’s April Fool’s Day. I remember the outrageous Boatnerd posts Beecher would make on this day. He was the best. Sometimes it took a day, or two, to realize the posts were a holiday hoax instead of Cleveland activity.

Very sad news to read about and I send my condolences to the family. My wife and daughter and I will be saying some extra prayers for you all. Does anyone know where we can send a card to for the family? I have one that I'd like to send.

What a loss. I am so very sorry I never had the opportunity to meet you in person Beecher. However, I feel as if I knew you and thought of you as a friend. I went to the Harbor Inn on Friday and had a beer and wish I would have arranged to buy one for you beforehand. Next time I enter the Harbor Inn I will toast You !

Words really can't describe how a fellow boatnerd feels, when a tragedy occurs. As I read the posts, I feel we lost a family member. I enjoyed his posts and feel great sorrow. We want the family to know our deepest sympathy and to our fellow boatnerds who knew him the same. With heavy hearts. Beecher you will be missed.

I love the historical mapping. A great tool. I used the property owners names on the plots & properties to fill the gaps in the family tree hunts. I even used it on the Charlie Putnam search by following his family's migration west after the Revolutionary War. Good stuff. Thanks!
Denny,Denny wrote:Beecher would you know or could tell me if the Manitowoc is now in lay-up in Cleveland? If they are then would you know perhaps just what dock they are in at Cleveland? A few days ago I think it was, I had read here that she was towed through the Cuyahoga by a tug and was curious to if maybe she had gone into layup yet or not? Let me know if you would please. Thanks for any information also as I appreciate it.
I see you got an answer. The AIS has been spotty here lately. Boats come in and out of view like they are moving through fog. I saw the Manitowoc leave before sunrise a few days back w/ no AIS.
All the shuttle boats are out. DA/PF sailed out and someone here said she was headed for layup in Erie. If that is the case, the shuttle is over. They all are laid up.
I have not been over to the old river channel in a while. They usually have a cement boat in layup there and whatever Great Lakes has in.
I have the Iowa and the Illinois moored out my window. And that's all folks!
Here is a map from 1917. I believe we used it looking for the Cincinnati Slip when Mr Lafferty first spoke of it. We never heard of it. (I circled it in the picture) Anyway the map was all about straightening/realignment of the Cuyahoga. It was a big bad deal that never passed 100 years ago. What would it be like today if it did happen? No river class boats?
Cheers

Denny-I've been watching her on AIS for the past week. At 12:55 p.m. Duluth time she is departing Fairport Harbor. Guessing she's been on a salt shuttle.Denny wrote:Beecher would you know or could tell me if the Manitowoc is now in lay-up in Cleveland? Re: 2016 cleveland activity
I suspect its the cost. Those "birds eye" views are taken by aircraft. Which has to get expensive, even for Microsoft. And they have only limited coverage anyway, so they probably will concentrate on adding more coverage before updated existing views. Back in 2013 they had covered about 3 million square kilometers world wide. In comparison, that is less than 1/3 the area of the United States.beecher wrote:Thanks Mr Link. I wonder why Bing uses such old images. They are at least ten years old.
