In general when the USCG issues your first document it will include all the entry level ratings. FH (food handler) is what you need to work in the galley. If you are given a choice I would recommend getting all three ratings as you never know when a specific job may show up. It's better to work in a department that is not your primary interest than to sit "on the beach" waiting for the right assignment to show up. In this economy it could be a long wait.

What rating is needed for work in the stewards dept? I am applying for mine but I dont know what rating that would be. I know (AB) is Able Bodied Seaman. Would it be food handeler? (FH) Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
