Thanks Monty and Guest for all the info. Reduced quotas have forced a lt f changes in the fishery over the years. I remember going to Port Stanley in the summer and seeing over 30 tugs fill netting and trawling. Those days are long gone now.

Thanks again-
I was in Port Stanley taking pictures a couple of weeks ago
and Carol Ann II had just come in - One of her crew told me their catch was pretty good-

Monty
Only one boat is fishing right now and he is in Erieau,
but will be done this week.
Everyone else in Wheatley and Kingsville are waiting on the MNR to release the quota numbers for the year.

Thanks for the info -
Is it worth a trip to Wheatly or Kingsville this time of year for fishtug action?
I'm in London-

He does not catch Lake Trout,
They are illegal to catch commercially in Lake Erie.
He buys them from Lake Superior,
And Erie Fishtug: the Mar Vel Ann and the Teresa Marie will not be heading for Lake Huron this year due to all the Quota cuts.

I buy from the Captain of the fish tug Kimmey Sue who fishes in Lake Erie. He catches Yellow Perch, Pickerel, Whitefish and Lake Trout. He also has a store.

Is there enough money in it to make a living or is it more of a hobby that brings in some supplemental income?

What fish do they fish for and in what manner do they catch the fish?

Thanks for the info. In past winters February would not be the time for these boats to try and come up the St Clair but this is a unique year weather wise. The Navegante also has spent the Spring on Huron, anyone know her plans?

The Mar Vel Ann's owner just went on a holiday with his family, for about a week and the Teresa Maria is going to wait and they will be going north together.
The Evelina has no 1 to run her so will not be going until a Captain is found.
The Crystal Blue has been fishing out of Wheatley until this past week, they have the Lee Marie tied up up and I imagine they will wait and come with the other 2 in the coming weeks.

Lake Erie fish tugs on Huron

Unread post by Huronview »

Every winter a number of fish tugs from Lake Erie have spent the winter fishing out of Sarnia and Goderich. I haven't been to either of these 2 ports in a week or so but no visiting tugs were around last week. Mar Vel Ann, Evalina, Crystal Blue and Teresa Marie are usually here by now. Has anyone seen them? Does anyone know if and when they might show up? Thanks
