Just solder a piece of RG-58 cable to the Heliax, keeping the connections as short as you can. Tape it up & put a regular Pl-259 connector on the RG-58. Not pretty, but it will work just fine.

It is hard to tell since I don't know what size the thumb in the picture is, but if I had to guess, I would say it is 7/8. It would be very helpful to know the manufacturer and part number on the cable. The info is normally printed along the length of the cable. If you can find out for sure what cable you have it is no problem to get a connector to fit it. My favorite source for RF cables and connectors is Tessco (tessco.com). They have most current manufactures and cable types.
You don't want to connect the 7/8 cable directly to your scanner. I would get a N series female connector for the large cable. Order a length of RG-213 or LMR400 flexible cable to go between the heavy cable and your scanner. Order N series male connector for the cable end and PL259 male for your scanner end.

Now that I look at it again, it does look a bit bigger. I'm using RG-11 and it's only 1/2"ø.

Correction/Add: This cable is a heiliax. It looks like 3/4" or 7/8".
I'm not sure what type of connector would fit.

This looks like commercial (broadcast radio) hard line. It seems to be too large for PL-259 which I fill up with 1/2"Ø LMR400 coax, but I don't know all the ins and outs. Hopefully our radio contributor Ron Walsh can help us out here.

Thanks, will a standard PL-259 fit?

Looks too thick, I think I need some type of large SO-239 for this end, but again I am not sure what size this cable is. It looks like an LMR with some type of really heavy shielding.

I'd cut off a couple inches of cable to get a clean end and put on a new PL-259. Then find an adapter to fit whatever end is on your scanner.

Can anyone identify the cable type in the picture below. I'm trying to hook a scanner up to the antenna and it is a heavy cable I am unfamilure with. Where would I find a connector?

Here is the old connector that has been exposed for years. I need to replace this with something I can connect a PL-259
